🌿 Muirhall Energy is Powering Communities and the Future

When it comes to driving forward Scotland’s clean energy transition, few companies have made an impact quite like Muirhall Energy.
Muirhall Energy is Headquartered in Carnwath, South Lanarkshire.
This innovative renewable energy developer is not just building wind farms—it’s building partnerships, empowering communities, and setting new standards in sustainability.

⚡ Leading the Way in Sustainable Onshore Wind

Muirhall Energy has developed some of Scotland’s most forward-thinking wind farms. Among their standout achievements is Crossdykes Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway. It became the first subsidy-free wind project in Scotland to offer community shared ownership.
Local residents were given the opportunity to purchase a 5% stake in the 48 MW development. This ensures they benefit directly from the project’s long-term success.

Another major milestone came in 2023 with the launch of Greengairs East Wind Farm in North Lanarkshire.
This 36 MW wind farm powers over 30,000 homes annually and prevents more than 55,000 tonnes of CO₂ yearly emissions.
Beyond its environmental contributions, Greengairs East has committed to a £180,000 annual community investment fund. Thus providing lasting financial benefits to five local communities over the project’s 40-year life.

🤝 A Deep Commitment to Communities

Muirhall Energy is redefining how energy companies engage with the public. Their approach is deeply rooted in transparency, inclusion, and long-term approach to community investment. For every megawatt of installed capacity, Muirhall pledges £7,000 in community benefit funds—well above the Scottish Government’s recommended £5,000.

These funds are used to support a range of initiatives, from local infrastructure upgrades and education programs to environmental conservation. In recognition of their outstanding community engagement, Muirhall Energy took home the Best Engagement award at the Scottish Green Energy Awards 2021 for their work on Crossdykes.

🚗 Going Beyond Wind: Launching Greenwheel Electric

Innovation doesn’t stop at wind turbines. Muirhall has recently launched Greenwheel Electric, a new business division focused on building a network of EV charging hubs. These hubs are powered entirely by renewable energy. These hubs will be located across the UK and will include amenities like food, drink, and retail offerings in partnership with local businesses.

This initiative reinforces Muirhall’s commitment to a greener, more connected future—extending the impact of their renewable projects beyond the grid and into daily life.

🌍 Looking Ahead

From their operational wind farms like Muirhall and Muirhall Extension, to ambitious developments on the Isle of Skye such as Glen Ullinish, Muirhall Energy continues to shape the future of renewable energy in Scotland and beyond.

Their model is a blueprint for success: combine sustainable development with deep-rooted community partnerships, and you not only create clean power—you create lasting value for people and planet alike.
